Regional Contributions
NEG was established in Shiga Prefecture, a region of great natural beauty and home to Lake Biwa, Japan’s largest lake. A number of NEG factories have been established within this prefecture. We have been involved in steady and continuous efforts to make contributions to the region in addition to the economic benefits and jobs created through business activities. Such efforts include lakeside and roadside volunteer cleanup, planting of seasonal plants and flowers around the factories, offering the use of on-site parks and grounds to regional residents, and continued associations with the community.
In February 2007, we entered into an agreement to pursue collaboration between academy and industry with the University of Shiga Prefecture. Plans call for mutual cooperation for joint research and human resources development, including endowment of new courses at the University. Through this agreement, we seek to contribute to the promotion of learning.
Promoting Employment Opportunities
NEG has been addressing the promotion of the hiring of people with disabilities by developing appropriate jobs. In 1980, we established a special affiliate company for this purpose—the 6th such company of this kind to be established in Japan. As of Apr. 2007, employees with disabilities at NEG, including at the affiliate, account for 4.01% of all personnel. This significantly exceeds the statutory hiring ratio. (The overall figure for NEG and all other domestic subsidiaries is 2.95%.)
