Glass for Electronic Devices
Various types of high-tech glass are used in the area of electronics, where functions are constantly advancing.
Powder Glass
Powder glass is widely used to form hermetic seals and insulating films, to coat electronic components, and to form circuit substrates. Each electronic device has its own requirements, such as the need to conduct firing at low temperatures in order to minimize damage to semiconductors and to match the thermal expansion rate of adjoining materials. To fulfill such needs, NEG develops and provides several hundred types of powder glass products.
Cover Glass for Image Sensors
CCD and CMOS image sensors serve as electronic eyes for digital still cameras, security monitors, and other electronic products. The sensors use high-grade, high-surface-precision cover glass that transmits even the faintest light. We also provide products coated with infrared ray cut filters for use in cellular phones and other applications.
Glass for Diodes
Glass for encapsulation of silicon diodes must provide low temperature sealing properties, electrical properties, and acid resistance. NEG created a lead-free product that features the outstanding properties previously demonstrated only by lead glass products.
Glass for Laser Diodes
NEG supplies thin sheet glass with a thickness of 300 microns with antireflection coating applied to its surface. This product is used as cover glass for laser diodes for the optical pickup heads of DVDs and other such devices. It transmits over 99% of laser light.
