Process Technology

Firmly grounded in advanced technology, new, high-quality products and manufacturing processes are developed and efficient production is supported. NEG aims to improve these core technologies and continue aggressive development.

Technology Bases

Melting

At NEG, our aim is to achieve clean, highly efficient melting technology. The raw materials for glass that have been blended together are heated and melted at well over one thousand degrees Celsius. In addition to the use of simulation technology for our advanced furnace design, we have developed the precision combustion control and temperature management technologies that are required in the production of high-quality glass. Moreover, in order to reduce emissions of CO2 and NOx from melting furnaces, NEG has installed oxy-fuel firing systems, converted to different fuels, and expanded the use of electric melting technology.

Forming

Rolling process
Overflow process / Danner process

NEG’s forming technology enables glass products to be made into diverse shapes and sizes. Molten glass is formed into sheets, vessels, tubes, or fibers utilizing a variety of forming methods. We are pursuing ever-larger, ever-thinner forms of glass while maintaining high dimensional precision and productivity.

Processing

NEG uses a diverse range of proprietary processing methods. Glass can be softened and reformed by heating, crystallized via firing, coated with film, precision-cut, polished, drilled, or combined with ceramics or organic materials. NEG is working to give glass even more precise shapes as well as new functions and properties.
