University-industry collaboration with the University of Shiga Prefecture

As a company with its main operations located in Shiga Prefecture, NEG concluded a comprehensive university-industry collaboration agreement with the University of Shiga Prefecture (an incorporate municipal university) in an effort to contribute to local communities. In developing process and products in new sectors, it is necessary to harness extensive knowledge available outside the company. Both the University of Shiga Prefecture and NEG are actively engaged in promoting communications and sharing research information. To develop human resources and facilitate cooperation with external entities, collaborative projects have been planned and implemented, including technology development in the glass engineering sector, joint research on new technologies, and the implementation of technology exchange programs. Through this interchange of intellectual and human resources, we will promote the development of industry and advancement in science and take the lead in technology development.

During the four years since the conclusion of the agreement, NEG has received two commendations, delivered 41 presentations at academic society meetings in Japan, delivered 26 presentations at international academic society meetings, and contributed 16 papers to journals (as of January 2011). One of our papers won the excellent paper award from the Journal of the Ceramic Society of Japan in FY2010.
