LX-57B
Radiation shielding lead glass. The large size availability and excellent transparency make it ideal for use in medical, industrial and laboratory applications.
Pro-GR
Ultra-high lead content glass specially developed for shielding the gamma ray of 0.511 MeV used in PET (Positron Emission Tomography).
LFX-9
Lead-free radiation shielding glass. Being 0.5 mmPb lead equivalent and impact safe, it is especially suitable for a mammography shield.

LX-57B

Because of its excellent radiation shielding capability and high light transmittance, radiation shielding lead glass LX-57B of Nippon Electric Glass (NEG) has many medical and laboratory applications, as well as being widely used in nuclear power industries. Since the LX-57B glass is melted in a tank furnace and rolled continuously, NEG is able to supply large-size and high-quality LX-57B glass readily upon demand.

Features
  1. JIS* Certified Product
With a lead oxide content of 55%, LX-57B glass has excellent radioactive shielding capabilities. For example, 9mm thick LX-57B has the same X-ray shielding capabilities (lead equivalent: 2.0mm Pb) as 2mm thick lead plating. LX-57B is a JIS certified product.
  2. (*JIS: Japanese Industrial Standard)
  3. Excellent Transparency
LX-57B has a grade of optical glass quality. Because both surfaces are optically polished it allows very high light transmittance. This transmittance is almost the same as that for a normal windows glass. Because of its excellent transmittance, LX-57B can be used with great advantage in observation and operation windows of radiation equipment.

  4. Glass Characteristics
LX-57B would not be combustible even in the unlikely event of a fire because it is an inorganic glass. It also has excellent chemical resistant properties. LX-57B is easy to process. It can be easily formed into a disk plate, or drilled for glove box.

  5. Large Sizes Increase the Field of Vision
The largest LX-57B product is 1,200 x 2,600mm. Using large-size LX-57B for observation and operation windows in X-ray TV rooms, CT scanning rooms and angiography rooms provides a wider field of vision and improves operations.

  6. Thickness and Lead Equivalent
    Glass thickness and lead equivalent:
    Glass thickness(mm) Mimimum lead equivalent(mmPb) X-ray tube peak voltage(KV)
    6.0±0.5* 1.1 60 -- 150
    7±0.5* 1.5
    8±0.5 1.8
    9±0.5* 2.0
    11±0.5* 2.5
    14±0.5* 3.0 60 -- 200
    *JIS R3701 certified products

Pro-GR

---Gamma Ray Shielding Glass for PET Facilities

New product "Pro-GR" is made of glass materials having a lead oxide content rate of roughly 70 % that is equivalent to ultra-high lead content block glass for nuclear power facilities.

An observation window of PET facility requires higher radiation shielding performance than that of a conventional X-ray or CT room, because PET uses gamma ray of such a relatively high energy as 0.511 MeV. While the shielding performance of LX-57B is equivalent to 3 mm thick lead (3 mmPb) against 0.511 MeV gamma ray in the maximum thickness of 14 mm, the new product "Pro-GR" is equivalent to 7.5 mm thick lead (7.5 mmPb) in its maximum thickness of 21.8 mm.

Lead-free Radiation Shielding Glass LFX-9 (Illustration of Mammography Screening Using LFX-9 Shield)
Lead-free 0.5 mmPb lead equivalent Easy-to-clean High Transparency for Clear View Impact Safety

LFX-9 is a completely new type of radiation shielding glass that has no lead in it. Containing Strontium, Barium and other materials as radiation shielding elements instead of lead, 9 mm thick LFX-9 has the lead equivalency of 0.5 mmPb/50, 80 kV. With its outstanding features exceeding those of conventional lead glass or lead acrylic, LFX-9 is suitable for protection from relatively weak radiation, especially as a shield for mammography that requires impact safety.

Features
  1. Lead-free
Lead-free, yet assuring lead equivalency of 0.5 mmPb/50, 80 kV
  2. Easy-to-clean
No risk of staining on the glass surface. High surface hardness to prevent scratches. These make it possible to clean LFX-9 just like regular window glass.
  3. High transparency for clear view
LFX-9 has a high visible light transmission rate, allowing you a clear view.
  4. Impact Safety
Three sheets of special glass are laminated together using safety interlayers to make LFX-9 impact safe.
  5. Light-weight
The specific gravity of LFX-9 is 2.7, and it is almost as light as regular window glass of the same thickness.

Test results according to IEC1331-1, 1994

The X-ray transmission of LFX-9 was measured at 30 kV as well, however, readings higher than background could not be obtained. This means that X-rays of 30 kV are perfectly shielded.
