Renewal of the Highest Three-star Rating Certification under the FY2025 Shiga Biodiversity Initiative Certification System
Nippon Electric Glass Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Otsu, Shiga, Japan; President: Akira Kishimoto; “NEG”) received the highest three-star rating in the fiscal 2025 Shiga Biodiversity Initiative Certification System, which is administered by Shiga Prefecture. This marks the second consecutive renewal since the company first received the certification in 2019.
This certification system is open to companies and other entities with head offices or business sites in Shiga Prefecture. It evaluates corporate efforts to conserve biodiversity and sustainably use natural resources in business activities through a standardized checklist. Based on the number of criteria met, Shiga Prefecture certifies eligible entities on a three-tier scale, from one to three stars. The certification is subject to periodic renewal. Upon reaching the renewal period, NEG applied for recertification under this system in December 2025. Following an assessment by the Biodiversity Certification System Committee, NEG has now received its renewed certification.

NEG holds “consideration for the environment” as one of its important values. Based on the belief that "practicing the world’s most efficient manufacturing process is, in fact, the key to realizing the world’s most environmentally friendly manufacturing," NEG pursues sustainable manufacturing while reducing environmental impact and conserving biodiversity.
With several manufacturing bases around Lake Biwa, NEG positions environmental protection and coexistence with local communities as key issues in its sustainability initiatives. NEG continues to support the preservation of the riverside forests around its business sites, as well as the environmental learning vessel "Uminoko" for elementary school students in Shiga Prefecture. NEG also supports forest conservation efforts by purchasing J-Credits from the Konze Forest Association and participates as volunteers in the association's forest road environmental beautification activities. Through these and other initiatives, NEG is engaged in a wide range of environmental conservation efforts. In addition, NEG participates in the “Shiga Nature Positive Network” hosted by Shiga Prefecture and deepens its understanding of biodiversity through cooperation with the local community.
NEG will continue to work to conserve biodiversity through these activities.
