R&D Policy

研究開発方針

Our research and development is based on a concept: Process & Product. The “P&P” concept underpins our creation of new products through the combination and development of materials and processes.
Our daily R&D work is directed toward achieving advances in specialty glass technology and improving the value of products used in a wide range of sectors that include medical care, displays, information and communications, lighting and home appliances, as well as Automotive.

R&D Organization

The staff departments work on the bedrock of basic research, namely developing fundamental technologies. This includes tasks such as designing materials processes and developing evaluation technologies. Meanwhile, the line departments work to improve products in sectors where we already operate and develop businesses by devising advanced function to meet our customers’ requirements. Furthermore, by implementing our business strategy and plans, our staff departments and line departments collaborate with a focus on creating new businesses through strategic development, and on developing manufacturing processes that achieve a reduced environmental impact. Moreover, we proactively seek to harness broader pools of knowledge in our development work by pursuing industry-university partnerships and collaborating with other companies.

R&D Centers

The P&P Technology Centers carry out R&D of basic and applied technologies for glass manufacturing. The Otsu center primarily engages in material design, analysis and evaluation, and basic process analysis. The Takatsuki center focus on development of process and compound technologies to create glass with new functions. The Notogawa center engages in product development and strength measurement of glass fiber products.

The term “P&P” stands for “Process and Product” and represents our philosophy of technology development: Development of novel technologies and processes must be valued, and the accumulated results of development will be reflected in the quality of our products.
