Fire-Resistant Glass "FireLite®" Obtains EPD (Environmental Product Declaration)
Contributing to the Realization of Sustainable Buildings through Visualization of Environmental Impact
Nippon Electric Glass Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Otsu, Shiga Prefecture, President: Akira Kishimoto; “NEG”) is pleased to announce that its fire-resistant glass, "FireLite®," has obtained the "SuMPO EPD" environmental label from the Sustainable Management Promotion Organization (SuMPO).
The Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is an international environmental label that quantitatively calculates the environmental impact of a product's life cycle (including CO2 emissions and other environmental burdens) and is obtained and disclosed after passing third-party verification. With this certification, buildings using "FireLite®" will be able to understand the environmental impact from raw material procurement to factory shipment, meeting the needs of those who wish to select building materials with lower environmental impact.
The movement to seek environmental labels for glass building materials is spreading, particularly in North America. Technical Glass Products (TGP), a long-time partner of our company and a subsidiary of Allegion, which handles the sales of "FireLite®" in North America, commented as follows:
"This new Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for FireLite® by Nippon Electric Glass represents a meaningful milestone for TGP as well.
FireLite® has consistently received high acclaim from numerous customers for its unique combination of fire-protective performance and aesthetic appeal. The issuance of this EPD substantiates and makes transparent the product’s environmental impact. We believe this documentation will support project stakeholders in better assessing the appropriateness of this product in sustainable and green building initiatives." (Devin Bowman, General Manager, TGP)
NEG will continue to enhance the transparency of environmental information through third-party certification and verification in the field of glass building materials, contributing to the promotion of sustainability and the realization of a sustainable society.
