NEG Fire-rated Glass “FireLite^®” Series Adopted at NEWoMan Takanawa

The FireLite^® series of fire-rated glass manufactured by Nippon Electric Glass Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Otsu, Shiga, Japan; President: Akira Kishimoto; “NEG”) has been adopted at NEWoMan Takanawa, a large-scale complex that opened last autumn within TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY, a major development project in the Takanawa area of Tokyo.
In large commercial facilities, there is an increasing demand for spatial designs that emphasize openness and circulation—particularly in expansive areas such as atriums and along primary pedestrian routes where large numbers of people pass through—while simultaneously achieving a high level of fire protection and disaster prevention performance.
Against this backdrop of evolving social needs, the adoption of glass building materials using FireLite^® is increasing as a solution that achieves both a sense of openness and safety.

NEWoMan Takanawa is a core facility of TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY, directly connected to Takanawa Gateway Station. The total floor space of the South and North areas combined with the LUFTBAUM area is approximately 52,000 square meters. With the neighboring MIMURE facility scheduled to open this spring, the complex will become LUMINE’s^※1 largest facility ever, totaling approximately 60,000 square meters and housing about 200 shops.

NEWoMan Takanawa is the first facility to lead JR East’s urban development strategy for the Greater Shinagawa Area. Looking ahead to a rich and fulfilling lifestyle that will continue for next 100 years, it goes beyond the framework of a commercial facility and is planned from the perspective of "creating a town."
Inside the building, designs emphasizing visual openness and circulation are incorporated in various areas, such as the atrium space surrounding the escalators connecting floors two through five, and the entrance. For such vertically connected, large-scale spaces, heat-resistant laminated glass, made using our FireLite^® bonded with a special resin to enhance impact safety, was selected as a glass building material that meets the required fire protection and safety performance.

This high-performance glass combines FireLite^®, the only glass for use in Japan's specific fire protection equipment and fire protection equipment. It withstands high temperatures during a fire and does not break even under rapid cooling caused by water discharge during firefighting, with a special resin interlayer that enhances impact safety.
Unlike wired glass, it provides clear visibility, contributing both a sense of openness and peace of mind to architectural spaces.
The latest product in the series, FireLite Plus^® Neo, has been adopted in locations used by large numbers of people, such as railway stations, public facilities, and schools.
