New Type of Glass-ceramic Top Plate for Cooking Appliances
Sophisticated Black Design Compatible with Full-color LED and LCD
Nippon Electric Glass Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Otsu, Shiga, Japan; President: Akira Kishimoto) is pleased to announce the development and launch of StellaShine™ Mono, a new top plate for cooking appliances that combines transparent glass-ceramic with a specialized black serigraphy. This innovative product offers excellent cost performance while allowing full-color LED and LCD.
Background of Development
Glass-ceramic is widely used as a top plate for IH and Gas cooking heaters due to its superior heat resistance and smooth surface, which makes cleaning easy even after spills. In the global market, top plates are typically made from colored glass substrates. However, these tend to have a slightly brownish tint and do not achieve a pure black appearance. This limits their optical properties, restricting the use of full-color LED and LCD transparency, and poses challenges for display-rich, IoT-enabled cooking appliances.
StellaShine™ have already demonstrated high design flexibility and color variations by combining transparent glass-ceramic with advanced serigraphy technologies. Building on this, the newly developed StellaShine™ Mono integrates a black specialty serigraphy with simplified processing and printing steps. This achieves an optimal balance between display performance and cost efficiency.
StellaShine™ Mono offers a refined black aesthetic and excellent compatibility with display technologies. As a next-generation solution for IoT-enabled cooking appliances, it delivers new value to both domestic and global markets.
Key Features of StellaShine™ Mono
1. Sophisticated Deep Black Appearance
2. Outstanding Cost Performance
3. Compatibility with Full-Color LED and LCD
By applying translucent printing ('dead front effect※') or omitting specific areas from the printing altogether, the top plate maintains a certain level of transparency. This allows the display installed beneath the glass surface, such as full-color LED or LCD screens, to be clearly visible.
※The dead front effect refers to a display characteristic where the screen is clearly visible when turned on, but appears black and blends seamlessly with its surroundings when turned off.
About StellaShine™ Mono
The name “Mono” is derived from the ancient Greek word “monos,” meaning “one” or “only.” It signifies a monochromatic black product with unified specifications, achieved through the simplification of color and processing steps. In Japanese, “Mono” also means “thing” or “object,” and carries a nuance of excellence. The name reflects both the streamlined nature of the product and its high quality.
StellaShine™ Mono features a luxurious pure black finish achieved through specialized black serigraphy. By standardizing the specifications and limiting the color to pure black, this new lineup delivers cost efficiency while preserving a premium appearance.
StellaShine™ Mono will be showcased at our booth (2.1 Hall B29-30 : C15-16) during Phase 1 of the 138th China Import and Export Fair (commonly known as the Canton Fair), held in Guangzhou, China from October 15 to 19.
