NEG’s New Product Achieves Both Fire Protection and Natural Color Reproduction

First Adopted at “MoN Takanawa: The Museum of Narratives”

Nippon Electric Glass Co., Ltd. ((Head Office: Otsu, Shiga, Japan; President: Akira Kishimoto; “NEG”) and Electric Glass Building Materials Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Yodogawa-ku, Osaka, Japan; President: Ichihiko Kosaka) today announced the launch of FireLite® F Airity™, a new addition to the FireLite® line of fire-rated glass.

  • As large-scale urban development accelerates, dynamic architectural spaces incorporating atriums and large openings are increasingly common, particularly in large complex that attract many people. At the same time, preparedness for fire safety remains essential. Against this backdrop, there is growing demand for fire-rated glass that not only ensures safety in areas requiring designated fire prevention equipment but also contributes to open spaces.
  • FireLite® F Airity™ is a new lineup within the film-applied FireLite® F series for designated fire prevention equipment, precisely meeting these needs. While maintaining excellent fire protection performance, it features a clearer color tone, enhancing visibility by reproducing colors more naturally. This makes it a new option within the FireLite® family.

  • The new product was first adopted at MoN Takanawa: The Museum of Narratives, a cultural complex that serves as a new hub for cultural creation and dissemination in TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY, Tokyo, which opened on March 28.
  • In the Tokyo metropolitan area where large-scale projects continue to emerge, FireLite® F Airity™ is expected to be increasingly adopted in facilities that require both high fire protection and a sense of openness.

About the New Product: FireLite® F Airity™

FireLite® F Airity™ is a newly specified fire-rated glass for designated fire prevention equipment, created by applying posica™ kukkiri™ film to FireLite®, a heat-rated glass-ceramic with exceptional resistance to thermal shock.
Using advanced film technology, the warm color tone characteristic of glass-ceramic materials is finely adjusted, enabling more natural color reproduction. The product name Airity is a coined term combining “Air” and “Clarity,” expressing the concept of fire-rated glass that reproduces colors as naturally as air itself.

Key Features of FireLite® F Airity™

1. Natural Color Reproduction
By adjusting the unique color tones of glass-ceramic materials with posica™ kukkiri™ film, colors viewed through the glass appear more natural and vivid.

2. High Impact Safety through Film Application
The product meets performance equivalent to a 30 cm drop height in the shot bag test specified in JIS A 5759. As a shatterproof film, it prevents glass fragments from scattering or falling even if breakage occurs, ensuring safety in everyday environments.

3. Exceptional Thermal Shock Resistance
With a coefficient of thermal expansion close to zero, the glass remains unbroken even when water is applied immediately after heating to 800°C. It is the only fire-rated glass for use in Japan’s designated fire prevention equipment, capable of withstanding both the extreme heat of a fire and rapid cooling caused by water during firefighting.

4. Large-Size Availability
Available in sizes up to 1,200 mm (W) × 3,000 mm (H).

Application Example/ MoN Takanawa: The Museum of Narratives

FireLite® F Airity™ was first adopted at the cultural complex MoN Takanawa: The Museum of Narratives. The product meets architectural requirements for combining superior fire protection with the transparency unique to glass in a series of continuous interior spaces.
